Gardner-Webb @ Ohio Recap
Ohio topped Gardner-Webb 26-15 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio on December 22, 2024. The dual came down to bonus points, with both teams collecting high-value wins but Ohio piling up the decisive ones to edge out the Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb did heavy damage with two big victories. At 133 pounds T.K. Davis dominated Mason Brugh, winning 18-2 by technical fall for five team points, and Todd Carter followed at 141 with a 15-4 major decision for four points. Those bonus results accounted for nine of Gardner-Webb’s 15 team points and kept the meet competitive through the middle stages.
Ohio responded with the kinds of bonus wins that swing duals. Garrett Thompson recorded a 15-0 technical fall at 174 for five team points, and the Bobcats picked up two pins that proved pivotal: Jeremy Olszko at 184 and Jordan Greer at 285 each won by fall, worth six team points apiece. Those three bonus victories supplied 17 of Ohio’s 26 points and created the margin that decided the match.
In the end the contrast in bonus production decided the outcome. Gardner-Webb’s two bonus wins were impressive individually, but Ohio’s combination of a shutout technical fall and two falls produced the extra team points necessary to secure a 26-15 home victory.
