California Baptist @ CSU Bakersfield

California Baptist beat CSU Bakersfield 30-11 in Bakersfield, Calif., on Feb. 21, 2025, picking up a 19-point road victory in the dual meet.

The difference came from California Baptist’s bonus-point production. At 141 pounds Elijah Griffin posted an 8-0 major decision, worth four team points, and Drayden Morton followed with a fall at 157 for six team points. Carter Schmidt capped that sequence with a 22-6 technical fall at 174, collecting five more team points. Those three bonus results accounted for half of California Baptist’s 30 points and swung the dual decisively in their favor.

CSU Bakersfield did answer with a big performance at 197, where AJ Ferrari rallied for a 20-4 technical fall over Eli Sheeren, a five-point bonus that kept the Roadrunners competitive on the score sheet. Even with Ferrari’s dominant outing, Bakersfield was unable to overcome the accumulation of majors, pins, and a tech fall by California Baptist across the middle weights.

In short, California Baptist’s string of bonus victories in the middle weights proved to be the turning point; while CSU Bakersfield had moments of success, including Ferrari’s technical fall, the visitor’s bonus scoring created an insurmountable cushion and decided the dual.
