California Baptist @ Drexel Recap
Drexel edged out California Baptist 21-18 in Philadelphia on December 20, 2025, at Drexel University. The dual came down to bonus points, with Drexel collecting a string of high-scoring wins that ultimately outpaced California Baptist’s own bonus production.
A turning point came when Jasiah Queen, ranked #14 for Drexel, rolled to a 21-5 technical fall for five team points, a heavyweight bonus that swung the bonus balance in Drexel’s favor. Earlier, Desmond Pleasant handed No. 28 Cooper Shore a major decision, 11-3, adding four more crucial points for the hosts and helping build the cushion Drexel needed in a tight match.
California Baptist answered with its own big results. At 149 pounds Paul Kelly, listed at #33, put up a 16-1 technical fall to grab five points for the Lancers, and Jesse Vasquez, also #33, pulled off an upset with an 11-2 major decision over Drexel’s Jordan Soriano, who was ranked #23. Vasquez’s win was a pivotal moment for California Baptist but not enough to overcome Drexel’s bonus edge.
In the end Drexel’s combination of technical falls and majors supplied the decisive margin. The bonus-point swing from Queen’s tech and Pleasant’s major, paired with strong team depth, produced the 21-18 final in a dual that hinged on a few high-value bouts rather than a string of narrow decisions.
