Cornell pulls away at Princeton with four major decisions, wins 31-6
Four major decisions and late bonus scoring turned a one-bout deficit into a 25-point victory for Cornell at Jadwin Gymnasium on Feb. 7, 2026.
PRINCETON, N.J. — Cornell beat Princeton 31-6 at Jadwin Gymnasium on Feb. 7, 2026.
The Big Red’s margin came largely from four major decisions that produced critical bonus points. No. 2 Jaxon Joy posted a 13-0 major at 149, No. 3 Meyer Shapiro recorded a 17-4 major at 157, No. 6 Vince Cornella earned a 12-3 major at 141, and Louie Cerchio closed with a 12-4 major at 184.
Cornell recovered after dropping the opening bout at 125 and won eight of the 10 weights. Tyler Ferrara edged Princeton’s Ethan Rivera 6-5 at 133, using a takedown with 28 seconds remaining to produce the decisive margin. Simon Ruiz, listed at No. 2 at 174, provided a 5-1 decision that included an early takedown and an end-of-match riding-time point.
Princeton’s scoring included Marc‑Anthony McGowan’s 6-2 decision over Greg Diakomihalis at 125 and Ty Whalen’s 8-3 decision at 165. McGowan surged with a second-period reversal and a third-period takedown to claim the early win for the Tigers.
Play-by-play entries show several late or clinching sequences that shaped the dual.
