Nick Feldman’s overtime takedown at 285 pounds provided the decisive points after Nebraska rallied from a 14-0 deficit to lead 16-14 late in the dual.
LINCOLN, Neb. — Ohio State edged Nebraska 17-16 Sunday at the University of Nebraska, with No. 3 Nick Feldman’s overtime takedown at 285 pounds delivering the winning points.
Ohio State opened with four straight wins, including major decisions by No. 4 Nic Bouzakis (16-4 at 125) and No. 1 Jesse Mendez (14-3 at 141), to build a 14-0 advantage. Bouzakis’ performance featured a first-period four-point nearfall and a third-period reversal and riding-time point that widened the margin. Mendez used two takedowns and a nearfall in the first period to establish the bulk of his major-decision margin.
Nebraska responded with a five-match run that cut the deficit and briefly put the Cornhuskers ahead. Antrell Taylor’s 11-3 major at 157 began the rally. No. 7 LJ Araujo followed with a 1-0 decision at 165. At 174, Christopher Minto — ranked No. 6 — scored a sudden-victory takedown in the first overtime to beat No. 4 Carson Kharchla 4-1 and continue Nebraska’s momentum. Silas Allred then defeated No. 5 Dylan Fishback 2-1 in overtime at 184, and Camden McDanel closed regulation at 197 with a takedown in the final seconds to beat No. 9 Luke Geog 9-6, putting Nebraska ahead 16-14.
The dual came down to heavyweight. Regulation at 285 ended tied 1-1 after an escape by Feldman in the second and an escape by AJ Ferrari in the third. Feldman recorded a takedown 53 seconds into the first sudden-victory period to win the bout 4-1 and secure the 17-16 team victory.
The result left Ohio State unbeaten on the season; the Buckeyes improved to 14-0. Nebraska fell to 9-5.
The dual featured multiple top-10 matchups and several narrow decisions. Ohio State’s two early majors provided the scoring cushion that allowed the Buckeyes to withstand Nebraska’s middle-of-the-lineup surge and preserve a one-point road victory.
