Michigan @ Columbia Recap
Michigan picked up a 25-9 road victory over Columbia in Columbia, New York on November 21, 2025. The dual was decided by a pair of bonus-point technical falls and a couple of razor-thin, high-stakes decisions among ranked wrestlers.
The biggest swings came from Michigan’s 157-pounder Cameron Catrabone, who shut out Charles Scanlan 16-0 by technical fall for five team points, and heavyweight Taye Ghadiali, the No. 5 from Michigan, who scored a 21-5 technical fall over Vincent Mueller for another five points. Those two bonus-point wins accounted for half of Michigan’s team total and created the separation Columbia could not erase. In the ranked matchups, No. 7 Brock Mantanona held off No. 16 Aaron Ayzerov 8-7 by decision to add a key three points, while Columbia’s Cesar Alvan, ranked No. 25, pulled off an upset with a 5-4 decision over Michigan’s No. 15 Dylan Gilcher to keep the dual competitive.
Columbia’s narrow victory at 165 was the most significant moment in terms of momentum for the home team, but Michigan’s bonus scoring and Mantanona’s tight win were the difference-makers. The combination of two technical falls and a couple of one-point decisions produced a 16-point margin in favor of Michigan, leaving Columbia with work to do as the season progresses.
