Rider @ Drexel Recap

Drexel defeated Rider 21-16 in a February 3, 2024 dual at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The Dragons' two bonus-point victories proved decisive in a tight meet, while Rider fought back late with a big result at heavyweight.

The turning point came in the midweights when Drexel collected two falls. At 184 pounds Ethan Wilson pinned Isaac Dean, a six-point swing that gave Drexel a big lift. That was matched by a second pin at 197, as Ibrahim Ameer finished Azeem Bell by fall for another six team points. Those bonus points created the cushion Drexel needed to stay ahead.

Rider made a strong charge in the upper weights when David Szuba handled Santino Morina at 285, winning 18-4 by major decision and adding four team points. Szuba’s major trimmed the margin and kept Rider within striking distance, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the two pins that had already put Drexel in control.

All told the bonus-point victories decided the dual. Drexel’s ability to secure falls turned what could have been a one-score match into a five-point win, 21-16, while Rider’s late major at heavyweight made for a competitive finish.
