Bucknell vs Columbia Recap
Columbia Men’s Wrestling picked up a 25-16 dual win over Bucknell Men’s Wrestling at Davis Gym in Lewisburg, PA, on February 21, 2025. The Lions collected enough bonus points to separate themselves from a gritty Bison group, turning a close meet into a nine-point victory.
Two falls were the headline for Columbia. Sulayman Bah’s pin (6 team points) and Kai Owen’s fall (6 team points) supplied major chunks of the Lion scoring and kept Bucknell from closing the gap. Nick Fine’s 9-0 major decision added another four team points and gave Columbia a cushion when every bonus point mattered.
Bucknell answered with its own high-scoring results. Kurt Phipps ripped off a 15-5 major decision for four team points, and Myles Takats posted an 11-1 major decision to keep the Bison competitive. Dillon Bechtold’s 20-4 technical fall at 197 delivered five team points and narrowed the margin, but Bucknell’s bonus production wasn’t enough to overcome Columbia’s pair of pins and the 184 major.
In the end Columbia’s accumulation of bonus points, particularly the two falls, decided the dual. Several standout bouts produced a lot of team points on both sides, but Columbia finished with the advantage and left Davis Gym with the 25-16 win.
