Utah Valley @ NC State Recap

NC State beat Utah Valley 23-16 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh on Nov. 23, 2024. The Wolfpack’s bonus-point production separated the teams, and a late technical fall at heavyweight put the dual out of reach.

Three major decisions in the middle weights gave NC State a big lift. Koy Buesgens controlled the 149-pound bout, winning 12-3 by major decision, while Ed Scott turned in a 19-11 major at 157. Dylan Fishback added another major decision at 184, 12-2, and those bonus points helped build a margin Utah Valley would have to chase.

Utah Valley fought back in the upper weights. Kael Bennie’s 14-3 major decision over Chase Horne at 197 kept the Wolverines competitive and swung four team points their way, creating a late momentum swing that threatened to change the math on the scoreboard.

The dual was ultimately decided at heavyweight, where NC State’s Isaac Trumble posted a 20-3 technical fall to secure five team points and push the final to 23-16. With four bonus victories for NC State and one for Utah Valley, the extra-team-point outcomes were the clear difference in a close meet that saw both squads score important wins in the contested weights.
