Coen Bainey delivered a trademark bonus outing at 125 pounds, beating Jared Brunner 18-2 by technical fall for five team points. Those three bonus victories accounted for the bulk of American’s scoring and opened a gap that forced Brown to chase from behind.

Brown fought back with a big tech fall of its own when Andrew Reall dominated Breon Phifer 19-4 for five team points, but that was not enough to swing the dual. Ian Oswalt’s 8-0 major decision at 141 and Thomas Sandoval’s 14-5 major at 197 kept Brown competitive in individual flights, yet American’s accumulation of bonus points proved the difference. In the end, the bonus-heavy weekend for American determined the outcome, with Brown unable to overcome the deficit despite several strong performances.
