Wyoming @ Northern Colorado Recap
Wyoming knocked off Northern Colorado 23-16 in Greeley, CO on January 26, 2024, picking up a crucial Big 12 dual at the University of Northern Colorado. The final margin came down to bonus-point wins that separated the teams in a competitive meet.
Wyoming leaned on three bonus efforts to build and protect a lead. Cole Brooks delivered an 11-2 major decision at 141 pounds and Gabe Willochell followed with a 10-1 major decision at 149, combining for eight bonus team points. Joey Novak’s pin at 197 added six more and served as the clear turning point; that fall swung the dual firmly in Wyoming’s favor and put pressure on Northern Colorado down the stretch.
Northern Colorado had its own big result in the 133-pound match, where Dominick Serrano scored a 14-6 major decision to pull his squad within reach. Serrano’s bonus kept the Bears close, but Wyoming’s string of bonus victories ultimately outpaced that effort. In the end Wyoming’s majors and Novak’s fall were the decisive factors in the 23-16 road win.
