Iowa State wins 29-10 at Oklahoma behind bonus streak in middle weights
Four consecutive bonus-point wins from 141 through 165, including technical falls by No. 4 Anthony Echemendia and No. 13 Connor Euton, produced the margin for the Cyclones in Norman.
NORMAN, Okla. — Iowa State defeated Oklahoma 29-10 on Jan. 30, 2026, building a lead with a four-match stretch of bonus-point victories in the 141–165-pound range that Oklahoma could not overcome.
No. 4 Anthony Echemendia opened the decisive run with a 20-4 technical fall at 141. Jacob Frost, listed at No. 6 at 149, followed with a 12-2 major decision and No. 8 Vinny Zerban added an 11-2 major decision at 157. No. 13 Connor Euton closed the sequence with a 19-1 technical fall at 165, giving Iowa State a large cushion in the middle of the lineup.
Iowa State took an early edge when No. 12 Stevo Poulin beat Conrad Hendriksen 5-1 at 125 and Adrian Meza edged Carter Schmidt 6-5 at 133 after a third-period reversal and a riding-time point that produced the final margin.
Oklahoma rallied in the upper weights but the late push came too late. No. 8 Carter Schubert beat No. 12 MJ Gaitan 5-1 at 174. At 184, Brian Soldano, listed No. 12, defeated No. 11 Isaac Dean 4-1 in overtime on a sudden-victory takedown recorded at the 91 mark of the first overtime. DJ Parker's 8-0 major decision at 197 provided additional points for the Sooners but did not close the gap.
Iowa State sealed the dual at heavyweight when No. 1 Yonger Bastida posted a 20-4 technical fall over Bradley Hill, adding five team points and finalizing the 29-10 score.
The dual was contested at McCasland Field House in Norman and matched No. 3 Iowa State against No. 21 Oklahoma. Oklahoma's report on the meet noted the Sooners' late three-match run but confirmed the Cyclones' bonus-heavy middle weights created the decisive margin.
Iowa State's collection of majors and technical falls in the heart of the lineup generated the swing in team scoring; Oklahoma's wins in the last four bouts narrowed the final ledger but did not change the outcome.
