Central Michigan 23, Ohio 10; Austin, Caves post major decisions

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. — Central Michigan used two major decisions and a late rally in the middle weights to build a margin Ohio could not overcome in a 23-10 Mid-American Conference dual on Jan. 30, 2026.

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. — Central Michigan defeated Ohio 23-10 on Jan. 30, 2026, at McGuirk Arena, collecting two major decisions and a late comeback that supplied the decisive bonus points in the MAC dual.

Andrew Austin produced a 13-4 major decision at 133 pounds to give Central Michigan an early bonus swing. Austin recorded takedowns in each period and a third-period takedown that helped create the margin for the major decision.

Ohio answered at 125 when Brayden Teunissen posted an 11-3 major decision over Colton Camacho. Teunissen added a two-point nearfall in the second period and recorded third-period takedowns that produced the four-team-point swing for the Bobcats.

The dual’s turning point came at 157 when No. 26 Mason Shrader erased a late deficit to beat No. 31 Derek Raike 11-7. Shrader was awarded a +1 scoring entry on a stalling call against Raike, then scored a takedown and a four-point nearfall in the closing sequence to complete the comeback.

No. 32 Jimmy Nugent and Nick Blackburn also produced decision wins for Central Michigan in the middle weights to sustain the Chippewas’ edge through the card. Nugent held Paul Woo 2-1 at 149 after late-period escapes by both wrestlers.

Ohio had wins from several ranked wrestlers. No. 19 Sal Perrine beat Adrien Cramer 8-3 at 184 and No. 23 Garrett Thompson edged Cody Brenner 5-2 at 174. Chandler Amaker, ranked No. 21, recorded a 5-1 decision at 165 for Central Michigan.

The dual was effectively sealed in the final bout when heavyweight Bryan Caves posted a 14-2 major decision. Caves opened with a first-period takedown, recorded an escape in the second and added multiple third-period takedowns to secure the major decision and four team points for the Chippewas.

Central Michigan’s athletic site recap noted Shrader’s comeback and reported the win moved the Chippewas to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in MAC play; the team was scheduled to host Buffalo next. Ohio’s recap and local coverage recorded the Bobcats at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play following the dual.

Central Michigan won seven of the 10 bouts and its two major decisions proved the margin that Ohio’s single major could not overcome. The Chippewas left McGuirk Arena with the 13-point victory and a conference split on the weekend slate.
