Binghamton vs. Illinois Recap
Illinois Men's Wrestling topped Binghamton Men's Wrestling 30-10 in the dual meet on November 9, 2024. The Illini relied on several bonus-point performances to pull away, while Binghamton picked up a notable major decision that kept the score respectable.
Illinois collected a trio of bonus wins that swung the team score. At 149 pounds Kannon Webster dominated Ivan Garcia, finishing by technical fall 21-3 for five team points. At 165 pounds Braeden Scoles sealed a bonus with a fall over Carter Baer, adding six points, and at 197 pounds Zac Braunagel put up a 17-2 technical fall worth five more team points.
Binghamton’s biggest individual result came from Brevin Cassella at 174 pounds, who defeated Dan Braunagel 14-1 by major decision to earn four team points and prevent the dual from being completely lopsided. Cassella’s performance stood out as the Bearcats’ primary momentum play on the day.
Illinois’ run of bonus-point victories was the deciding factor, with the technical falls and the pin creating an insurmountable margin and closing out the 20-point win. The Illini’s ability to convert bonus opportunities while limiting Binghamton to just one bonus result made the difference in the final 30-10 score.
