George Mason @ Clarion Recap
George Mason defeated Clarion 26-9 in the dual at Clarion University in Clarion, Pa., on November 17, 2024. The Patriots piled up enough bonus points to build a decisive cushion, leaving Clarion short on opportunities to climb back into the match.
The decisive factor was Mason’s trio of bonus-point victories. Ben Monn delivered a 10-0 major decision at 125 pounds for four team points, and DJ McGee and Evan Maag both closed out their bouts by technical fall, 18-2 at 157 and 17-2 at 165 respectively, each worth five team points. Those three matches accounted for more than half of Mason’s 26 points and swung the math heavily in Mason’s favor.
Beyond the bonus scoring, Clarion struggled to erase the gap. The two technical falls eliminated chances for single-match comebacks, and the major at 125 added a margin that required multiple bonus results from Clarion to counter. Even if Clarion picked up decisions elsewhere, Mason’s high-value wins limited the Rams’ path back into contention.
The final score reflected how crucial bonus-point outcomes are in dual competition. George Mason’s ability to convert opportunities into a major and two technical falls proved the difference on the scoreboard, while Clarion will look to tighten those mid-range matchups when the teams regroup after this November meeting.
