Columbia @ Michigan Recap

Michigan defeated Columbia 28-9 at the Bahna Wrestling Center in Ann Arbor, MI on November 17, 2024. The Wolverines backed up the final margin with a heavy bonus-point performance that separated the teams throughout the dual.

The biggest blows came in the upper weights, where Brock Mantanona’s 18-3 technical fall at 165 pounds and Jacob Cardenas’ 18-0 technical fall at 197 produced two five-point scores for Michigan. Those dominant tech falls not only padded the scoreboard but removed any realistic chance for Columbia to climb back into the match late.

Michigan also collected three major decisions that kept the pressure on. Christian Tanefeu topped Sulayman Bah 18-9 at 125, Dylan Ragusin beat Boris Witmer 16-8 at 133, and Sergio Lemley handled Kai Owen 12-4 at 141. Each major was worth four team points and, combined with the two techs, accounted for the bulk of Michigan’s 28 points.

In the end the string of bonus-point victories decided the dual. Columbia totaled nine team points but could not offset Michigan’s five bonus wins, and the Wolverines closed the night with a comfortable 19-point margin. Michigan’s ability to turn solid individual performances into extra-team points made the difference in Ann Arbor.
