Lehigh @ Binghamton Recap
Lehigh edged Binghamton 23-16 in the January 11 dual at Binghamton University, a meeting of EIWA foes that came down to bonus points more than tight decisions. The final margin was seven points, and both teams grabbed big results that kept the dual competitive throughout.
Binghamton got two huge bonus wins that kept them in the mix. Micah Roes’ pin at 133 delivered six team points and a momentum jolt, and Carter Baer’s 9-1 major decision at 165 added four more to Binghamton’s total, giving the home side key bonus scoring when it mattered.
Lehigh, however, generated the decisive margin with three bonus victories of its own. Carter Bailey’s 15-0 technical fall at 141 and Michael Beard’s dominant 21-4 technical fall at 197 were particularly impactful, each worth five team points. Owen Trephan closed out the list of bonus wins with a 9-1 major decision at 285 for four team points. Those three bonus outcomes combined for 14 Lehigh points and ultimately tipped the balance.
With bonus points deciding the night, Lehigh’s ability to convert several matchups into tech falls and majors was the difference. Binghamton’s pin and major kept the dual tight, but Lehigh’s string of high-value victories pushed them to the 23-16 final.
