West Virginia @ Morgan State Recap
West Virginia Men's Wrestling picked up a 40-3 road win over Morgan State Men's Wrestling Team in Maryland on January 28, 2024. The Mountaineers piled up bonus points throughout the dual, leaving Morgan State with just three team points and a wide margin by the final buzzer.
The match swung on multiple bonus-point victories. Jace Schafer recorded an 18-1 technical fall at 125 pounds, and Jordan Titus followed with a 15-0 technical fall at 141, each delivering five team points. Those dominant performances were matched by Ty Watters’ 15-0 technical fall at 149, and Peyton Hall added a major decision at 165, 20-10, to keep the pressure on Morgan State. Those bonus wins created a gap Morgan State never recovered from.
Another big moment came at 197 where Austin Cooley closed out a dominant night with a 19-4 technical fall, further padding West Virginia’s advantage. Dennis Robin’s 10-2 major decision at 184 also contributed key extra points that kept West Virginia comfortably ahead throughout the dual. The accumulation of techs and majors, rather than close decisions, was the decisive factor.
Morgan State managed only three points in the team total and could not counter West Virginia’s streak of bonus scoring. West Virginia’s balance of high-scoring offense and late bonus finishes turned this into a comprehensive win in Maryland on January 28.
