Harvard @ Brown Recap
Harvard Men’s Wrestling edged Brown Men’s Wrestling 23-17 at Brown University in Providence, R.I., on February 23, 2024. The dual came down to bonus-point bouts across several weight classes, with Harvard’s middleweights supplying the decisive margin and Brown answering with big wins of its own.
Harvard got two big team swings in the 141 and 149-pound bouts when Michael Jaffe rolled to a 17-1 technical fall and Jack Crook followed with a 20-4 technical fall, combining for 10 bonus points. Philip Conigliaro’s 10-2 major decision at 174 added another four team points and gave Harvard an edge that proved difficult to erase.
Brown refused to go quietly, however. Michael Joyce’s 13-2 major decision at 125 and Alex Semenenko’s 12-2 major at 285 delivered hard-fought bonus points, and Blake Saito’s fall over Jimmy Harrington provided the largest individual swing of the night with six team points. Those results kept the score tight and made the finish dramatic.
The turning point was Harvard’s back-to-back tech falls in the low-to-midweights, which created a cushion that Brown’s late run of bonus victories could not completely overcome. In the end the bonus-heavy matchups decided a close Ivy clash, with Harvard coming away 23-17.
