Rider @ Wisconsin Recap
Rider Men’s Wrestling defeated Wisconsin Men’s Wrestling 28-12 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on November 24, 2024. The visitors piled up bonus points across multiple weights, turning what might have been a close dual into a comfortable 16-point margin by the final whistle.
Wisconsin’s Zan Fugitt provided the loudest home moment, pinning Michael Campanaro at 133 pounds to grab six team points and keep the Badgers competitive. Rider answered emphatically in several key battles, though. Sammy Alvarez turned Royce Nilo inside out at 149, earning a 21-4 technical fall that chipped away at Wisconsin’s cushion. At 157, Colton Washleski sealed a major swing with a fall over Luke Mechler, another six-team-point outing that swung momentum squarely toward Rider. Isaac Dean’s 20-6 major decision at 184 added four more team points and helped put the match out of reach.
What decided this dual was Rider’s collection of bonus-point victories. Rather than relying on a string of close decisions, the Broncs produced a technical fall, a pair of pins, and a major decision to build separation. Wisconsin’s lone bonus was not enough to counter that run, and Rider’s depth at the middle weights proved decisive in Madison. The 28-12 final reflects a meet in which bonus scoring, more than single close calls, determined the outcome.
