North Dakota State 31, California Baptist 7
NDSU used four bonus-point wins — including a technical fall, two major decisions and a pin — to build a decisive lead at the Scheels Center.
FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota State beat California Baptist 31-7 on Jan. 24 at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
The dual turned on a string of bonus-point outcomes for the Bison. No. 19 Ezekiel Witt opened the scoring with a 19-4 technical fall at 125; a takedown by Witt with 91 seconds remaining in the second period created the 15-point margin that ended the bout by technical fall.
North Dakota State extended its cushion when No. 23 Max Petersen posted an 11-2 major decision at 149. Petersen closed the match with third-period takedowns and a riding-time point that finished the margin for the major decision.
Aidan Brenot’s pin at 184 produced a six-point swing that pushed NDSU further ahead. Brenot had built an 11-2 advantage through takedowns and a reversal before securing the fall.
No. 28 Devin Wasley added another bonus result at 197, recording a 9-0 major decision that included a third-period takedown, a four-point nearfall and a riding-time point.
California Baptist’s most significant scoring came at 165, where Gabe Schumm posted a 19-6 major decision over Boeden Greenley. That bout supplied the visitors’ largest single-bout haul but was an isolated response amid North Dakota State’s run of high-value finishes.
NDSU won eight of the 10 matches and collected four bonus-point victories. The result gave North Dakota State its first Big 12 dual victory of the season.
