Lock Haven beats Kent State 37-3 in Kent
Lock Haven won nine of 10 bouts and closed with three tech falls and a pin in a commanding road dual at Kent State.
KENT, Ohio — Lock Haven beat Kent State 37-3 on Feb. 20, 2026, taking nine of the 10 bouts in the dual at Kent State.
Curtis Nelson opened the scoring with a sudden-victory decision at 125, scoring a 2-point reversal in the second period and a 3-point takedown 21 seconds into overtime to beat Nico Calello 5-2.
Gable Strickland gave Lock Haven an early cushion at 133 with a 5-3 decision. Strickland, ranked No. 32 at 133, used a third-period three-point nearfall and a late escape to hold off Nick Molchak.
Wyatt Henson capped a dominant stretch for Lock Haven at 141 with a 20-4 technical fall. Henson, listed as No. 28 at 141, scored takedowns in both periods and recorded a second-period nearfall that pushed the match to the technical-fall margin. Lock Haven’s athletics site reported Henson’s victory also marked his 100th career win.
Lucas Kapusta — ranked No. 28 at 149 — earned a 10-2 major decision, adding to Lock Haven’s string of bonus points. Nick Stampoulos followed with a 3-1 decision at 157 after an escape and a riding-time point late in the third.
Kent State’s lone victory came at 165, where Chris Earnest rallied with a third-period escape and a 3-point takedown to beat Nick Kunstek 5-2.
Lock Haven extended its edge with three more stoppage wins. Avery Bassett, listed as No. 31 at 174, finished Ethan Barr by technical fall, 16-1, after a reversal and two second-period nearfalls. Sam Gautreau closed his bout at 184 by technical fall, 19-4, following a string of takedowns in both periods.
Tucker Hogan, ranked No. 33 at 197, edged Blake Schaffer 12-7. Hogan tied the match late in the third with an escape, then scored a 3-point takedown with four seconds remaining and was credited with a riding-time point to reach the final margin.
At heavyweight, Kade Sottolano sealed the dual with a pin. The bout was tied 1-1 after regulation; Sottolano recorded a 3-point sudden-victory takedown in overtime and secured the fall to finish the night.
The dual delivered nine Lock Haven victories that included three technical falls, a major decision and a fall. Lock Haven’s athletics site and conference summaries noted the result wrapped the Bald Eagles’ regular-season conference slate and highlighted Henson’s milestone.
Kent State will shift focus to the Mid-American Conference Championships next month; Lock Haven prepared to enter the postseason buoyed by bonus-point production across multiple weight classes.
