Chattanooga @ The Citadel

The Citadel Men’s Wrestling edged Chattanooga Men’s Wrestling 19-18 in Charleston, SC on Feb. 2, 2025, in a back-and-forth SoCon dual that came down to bonus points. The Bulldogs collected multiple bonus victories that ultimately separated the teams, while Chattanooga answered with a match-ending fall that kept the Mocs within reach.

Gylon Sims’ 13-3 major decision at 125 pounds and Adam Ortega’s 13-5 major at 285 accounted for two of The Citadel’s four-point swings, and Patrick Brophy delivered the biggest individual margin for the hosts with a 19-4 technical fall at 197 that earned five team points. Those three bonus results provided a critical chunk of The Citadel’s total.

Chattanooga’s Kamdyn Munro had the most decisive result for the visitors, pinning Micah DiCarlo at 184 for six team points and giving Chattanooga a huge momentum boost and the largest single-point swing of the night. Munro’s fall, combined with solid wrestling in other matches for the Mocs, kept the dual razor-close and set the stage for a one-point finish.

In the end the Bulldogs’ trio of bonus wins proved decisive, with Brophy’s technical fall in particular supplying a cushion large enough to withstand Munro’s pin and other Chattanooga scoring. A narrow 19-18 scoreline left both teams with plenty to build on in SoCon play, and a reminder that bonus points can be the difference in tight duals.
