Chattanooga defeats Gardner‑Webb 30-10 in Southern Conference dual
Three bonus-point wins, including a technical fall from No. 25 Cooper Flynn, powered Chattanooga to a 30-10 victory in Boiling Springs.
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Chattanooga defeated Gardner‑Webb 30-10 on Jan. 16, 2026, earning a 20-point road victory in Southern Conference dual meet action.
The Mocs collected three bonus-point outcomes that proved decisive. No. 25 Cooper Flynn opened the scoring with an 18-1 technical fall at 125 pounds that was recorded as a five-team-point result. Flynn scored takedowns in each period and added a four-point nearfall in the second period that produced the stoppage.
Chattanooga added two more high-value finishes later in the dual. Kamdyn Munro ended his 174-pound bout by fall after a 3-point takedown in Period 1, and Ethan Vergara closed the evening with a 15-1 major decision at the heaviest class, giving Chattanooga additional bonus points that created the cushion Gardner‑Webb could not overcome.
Gardner‑Webb’s two bonus wins came from a ranked grappler and a quick fall. No. 15 T.K. Davis recorded a 17-6 major decision at 133 pounds, building an early first-period advantage with a takedown and consecutive near-falls and finishing with two third-period takedowns plus a riding-time point. Tucker Cell provided a 20-second fall at 165 pounds that momentarily cut the visitors’ lead.
The dual featured several late, deciding sequences in individual bouts. Hunter Mason’s takedown with one second remaining at 141 pounds turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-2 decision and supplied momentum for Chattanooga in the upper weights. Other decisions in the middle weights, including Landon Jones’ 7-3 victory at 184 and Kade Rule’s 13-9 decision at 197, extended Chattanooga’s advantage.
Chattanooga built an early lead by taking four of the first five matches to go up 14-4, and although Gardner‑Webb’s pin at 165 narrowed the gap to 14-10, Munro’s fall and subsequent winning bouts restored and widened the margin. The Mocs finished with eight wins in 10 matches on the night.
The result leaves Chattanooga with the dual victory and Gardner‑Webb with two standout individual performances to highlight as the home team looks ahead to its next dual match.
