Eddie Ventresca’s fall at 125 delivered six team points and was one of the decisive moments for Virginia Tech, and Connor McGonagle turned in a dominant 13-3 major decision at 133 for four more bonus points. Those two bonus results removed any margin for error and tilted the scoreboard in Virginia Tech’s favor.

Appalachian State fought back when Luke Uliano uncorked a 19-3 technical fall at 174, the Mountaineers’ most explosive result of the night. Uliano’s bonus win narrowed the gap and gave App State momentum, but it proved to be an isolated surge rather than a sustained run.

Jimmy Mullen’s 26-9 technical fall at 285 helped push the final margin to 19 points, rounding out Virginia Tech’s collection of bonus-point victories that decided the dual. In the end, the Hokies’ ability to finish matches with falls, majors and tech falls produced the difference on the scoreboard in Boone.
