Utah Valley defeated California Baptist 23-14 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on January 4, 2025. The final margin came down to bonus-point wrestling, with a handful of high-impact results deciding the dual.

California Baptist’s Paul Kelly delivered the meet’s most dominant individual score, topping Tanner Frothinger 21-3 by technical fall for five team points. Kelly’s tech fall kept the Lancers competitive and was one of the few bonus outcomes for California Baptist on the day.

Utah Valley answered with a run of bonus wins that swung the dual. At 157 pounds Ryker Fullmer beat Jeremy Ginter Jr. 15-3 by major decision for four team points, and at 165 Terrell Barraclough followed with a 10-0 major decision, adding another four points. Those two majors erased much of Kelly’s impact and generated separation in the team score.

The clincher came at heavyweight when Jack Forbes recorded a fall over Jamikael Lytle, worth six team points, which effectively sealed the 23-14 victory for Utah Valley. That sequence of back-to-back bonus results was the clear turning point, as Utah Valley’s collection of majors and a pin created the scoring gap California Baptist could not overcome.
