Northern Iowa @ California Baptist Recap
Northern Iowa knocked off California Baptist 36-9 at California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif., on Feb. 9, 2024. The Panthers leaned on a string of bonus-point wins to build and protect a sizable lead on the road.
Trever Anderson supplied an early spark with a fall at 125 that earned six team points for Northern Iowa, while California Baptist answered in kind when Chaz Hallmark pinned Kaleb Olejniczak at 157 for six points of their own. Those two pins kept the dual competitive through the middle weights, but the momentum swung back toward Northern Iowa as the upper weights went to work.
Jared Simma turned a key match into a 17-2 technical fall at 174, worth five team points, and Wyatt Voelker followed with a 15-0 technical fall at 197 for another five. That run of upper-weight bonus victories effectively put the meet out of reach, providing the margin that separated the teams late.
Northern Iowa’s ability to convert opportunities into pins and technical falls made the difference in a 27-point road win. California Baptist had its moments, but Northern Iowa’s bonus-point production across the lineup sealed the 36-9 final.
