Michigan State @ Rider Recap
Rider beat Michigan State 24-16 at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J., on November 16, 2025. The dual came down to bonus-point finishes, with Rider collecting enough majors and a fall to build a cushion Michigan State could not overcome.
Key for Rider were three bonus wins. At 125 pounds Tyler Klinsky, ranked #20, defeated Michigan State’s Caleb Weiand, #26, 10-2 by major decision. Elijah Griffin also scored a 10-2 major decision at 141 to add another four-team points. Brendon Abdon, a #29, provided the biggest swing when he pinned DJ Shannon at 165, picking up six points and widening Rider’s margin.
Michigan State did generate momentum in spots; Clayton Jones answered with a fall at 149 to notch six team points and keep the Spartans within reach. That rally, however, was not enough to erase the gap created by Rider’s bonus scoring.
Rider’s ability to convert a handful of matches into extra-team points proved decisive in the 24-16 final. Michigan State added some bonus results of its own, but Rider’s majors and the late pin were the difference in Lawrenceville.
