Clarion edges Buffalo 21-16 on Meyers’ late pin

Clarion’s early bonus-point production and a heavyweight fall by John Meyers gave the Golden Eagles a 21-16 dual victory over Buffalo at Clarion University on Jan. 16, 2026.

CLARION, Pa. — Clarion defeated Buffalo 21-16 at Clarion University on Jan. 16, 2026, as John Meyers’ pin at heavyweight supplied the margin in the final bout.

Travis Clawson opened the dual with a 16-0 technical fall at 125, scoring a takedown and two four-point nearfalls in the first period before adding second-period scoring and riding time to end the match by technical fall. That technical fall produced a five-point swing that put Clarion ahead early.

Joey Fischer followed with an 8-0 major decision at 133, recording a late four-point nearfall in the second period and a riding-time point in the third. Fischer entered the dual as No. 33 at 133; his major decision added another bonus-point result that extended Clarion’s edge.

Buffalo answered across the middle weights. Tyler Roark posted a 16-11 decision at 141 and Sam Ewing delivered a 13-1 major decision at 149. No. 29 Kaleb Burgess returned to the Buffalo lineup and beat Wesley Barnes 5-1 at 157, and Kelin Laffey and Rafael Knapp added decisions at 165 and 174 that moved Buffalo into contention.

Clarion narrowed the gap in the late weights. Adrian Gacek won a 4-1 decision at 184 and Ethan Wiant added a 5-0 decision at 197 to pull Clarion within one team point entering the final bout.

Heavyweight John Meyers then recorded a takedown in the first period and finished by fall over Magnus Bibla, delivering the additional team points Clarion needed to close out the dual 21-16.

The dual was decided by a combination of early bonus points and the last-match pin. Clarion’s technical fall and major decision produced separation that withstood Buffalo’s mid-dual rally and set up Meyers’ fall as the decisive sequence.
