Lock Haven 20, Edinboro 12 — Gautreau technical fall decides MAC dual

Sam Gautreau’s 21-5 technical fall at 184 supplied the only bonus points of the night and delivered a road victory for Lock Haven at McComb Fieldhouse.

Edinboro, Pa. — Lock Haven defeated Edinboro 20-12 Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro in a Mid-American Conference dual.

The visitors built their margin on a single bonus-point result: at 184 pounds Sam Gautreau recorded a 21-5 technical fall over Alaa Aly, a result that produced five team points and the separation Lock Haven needed.

The remainder of the dual consisted entirely of decisions. Edinboro opened the scoring at 125 with Chris Vargo posting a 10-5 decision. Lock Haven answered at 133 when Gable Strickland held off Landon Bainey, 2-0; Strickland entered the dual ranked No. 32.

Lock Haven extended its edge when No. 30 Wyatt Henson went on to an 11-5 decision at 141. Edinboro regained footing later in the lineup, including a 7-2 decision at 149 by Ryan Michaels and a 5-1 decision at 165 by Ryan Burgos, but those wins came by single-match scoring and did not produce bonus points.

Lock Haven collected additional decision victories at 157, 174, 197 and other weights to sustain the team lead. Edinboro closed with a decision at heavyweight but could not overcome the five-point swing produced by the 184-pound technical fall.

With no other majors, pins or technical falls on the card, Gautreau’s performance proved decisive: the five-team-point bonus converted what otherwise would likely have been a one- or two-match margin into an eight-point final spread.

The dual was contested inside McComb Fieldhouse with both teams trading narrow decisions through the early and middle weights before the 184-pound bout created decisive separation. Lock Haven’s road win reflected the impact of a single bonus outcome in a meet otherwise decided by standard decisions.
