Lehigh’s bonus-point barrage defines win at West Point
A flurry of major decisions, a tech fall and a pin supplied the margin as Lehigh left Christl Arena with a decisive road victory.
Lehigh left West Point with a victory built on bonus points. The dual at Christl Arena centered on a string of decisive wins from the Mountain Hawks that created an unassailable cushion and closed the meet.
No. 3 Sheldon Seymour opened the dual with an 11-2 major decision, converting late to secure the bonus. Seymour added a takedown in the closing seconds and the riding-time point to lock the margin that produced the extra team points.
No. 5 Luke Stanich followed with a technical fall, 22-5, delivering multiple takedowns and ending the bout before the final horn. His dominant performance supplied another multi-team-point swing and underscored Lehigh’s top-end depth.
The middle weights supplied more of the same. No. 12 Logan Rozynski produced a 15-1 major decision at 157, and No. 9 Max Brignola closed his bout with a fall at 165, the latter adding the maximum team payoff when he finished the match by pin.
Those bonus outcomes — tech fall, majors and a fall — were the defining factor in the meet. The combination of ranked winners closing strong and Brignola’s pin created the scoring cushion that determined the dual at West Point.
The visit to Army showcased Lehigh’s ability to convert individual margin into team advantage on the road. Multiple weight classes produced bonus-point finishes, and Lehigh’s upper-end pieces delivered when it mattered most.
