Purdue @ Drexel Recap
Drexel edged Purdue 19-16 in Philadelphia on Jan. 2, 2026, handing the Boilermakers a narrow dual-meet loss at Drexel University. The match came down to bonus-point wrestling and a handful of ranked matchups that swung the ledger.
Drexel collected three bonus-point wins that ultimately decided the dual. Jasiah Queen, ranked No. 14, dominated Aidan Costello 19-3 by technical fall for five team points. Luke Nichter added a 12-4 major decision over Purdue’s No. 16 Stoney Buell, and Nate Schon, a No. 29, scored a 12-3 major decision over No. 28 Hayden Filipovich. Those majors and the tech fall produced a sizable chunk of Drexel’s total.
Purdue didn’t go quietly. Joey Blaze, the Boilermakers’ No. 4, answered with a 15-3 major decision over Cody Walsh for four team points that kept Purdue within reach. A couple of tight decisions in the lineup kept the meeting competitive, but the three Drexel bonus victories offset Blaze’s big outing.
In the end the 3-point margin reflected the difference in bonus scoring. Drexel’s ability to convert chances into majors and a tech fall, including a ranked upset at 285 when No. 29 Schon downed No. 28 Filipovich, was the decisive factor in the 19-16 result.
