Lehigh @ Cornell Recap
Cornell picked up a 23-19 home win over Lehigh at the Friedman Wrestling Center in Ithaca, N.Y., on January 12, 2025. The dual came down to bonus points, with Cornell’s burst of high-scoring results in the lower- to middleweights creating the gap Lehigh could not erase.
Tyler Ferrara’s 17-2 technical fall at 133 pounds, Meyer Shapiro’s fall at 157, Julian Ramirez’s 18-1 technical fall at 165, and Simon Ruiz’s 11-1 major decision at 174 accounted for 20 of Cornell’s 23 team points, a dominant collection of bonus wins that anchored the Red’s effort. Shapiro’s pin was especially consequential, delivering six team points and creating a cushion that forced Lehigh to chase points down the stretch.
Lehigh answered with major bonus victories of its own in the upper weights. Michael Beard’s 22-5 technical fall at 197 and Owen Trephan’s 18-3 technical fall at 285 were five-point swings each and pulled the Mountain Hawks back into contention, but those two efforts were not enough to overcome Cornell’s earlier run of bonus results.
In the end Cornell’s concentration of tech falls, a pin, and a major decision in the critical middleweights made the difference, leaving Lehigh four points short. Final score: Cornell 23, Lehigh 19.
