Arizona State vs. South Dakota State Recap
South Dakota State knocked off Arizona State 24-14 in the Jan. 2, 2026 dual meet (location unknown), grabbing the win behind a string of bonus-point victories that proved decisive.
The visitor attack included a big moment from #22 Brady Roark, who pinned Damian Moreno at 125 pounds for six team points. That fall was one of four bonus wins SDSU collected and gave the Jackrabbits a clear advantage on the scoreboard and on momentum.
SDSU extended that edge with a run of major decisions in the middle weights. #17 Cael Swensen posted a 10-2 major at 157, Moses Espinoza-Owens (#16) followed with a 17-7 major at 174, and Quin Morgan added a 15-3 major at 197. Those three majors combined for a major share of South Dakota State’s points and created the separation Arizona State could not overcome.
Arizona State’s standout response came at heavyweight, where #19 David Szuba notched a 20-5 technical fall, earning five team points and preventing the dual from getting further out of reach. Szuba’s bonus win was the Sun Devils’ only bonus and kept the final margin to ten, but SDSU’s depth and multiple bonus outcomes were the deciding factor in the 24-14 result.
