Cornell defeats Harvard 31-11 in Ithaca
A string of bonus-point wins in the middle weights put the dual out of reach for Harvard at Cornell’s Friedman Wrestling Center.
ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell beat Harvard 31-11 on Jan. 24, 2026, using multiple pins, major decisions and technical falls to build a decisive margin.
The turning stretch came in the middle weights. No. 6 Vince Cornella recorded a first-period pin at 141, and No. 2 Jaxon Joy followed with a 16-2 major decision at 149. No. 7 Meyer Shapiro then closed his bout at 157 by technical fall, 17-0. Those consecutive bonus-point results opened a gap Harvard could not overcome.
Harvard began the dual with back-to-back wins at the lightest weights. Logan Brzozowski beat Ernie Perry III by 20-4 technical fall at 125 after a late second-period near fall, and Coleman Nogle edged No. 23 Brett Ungar, 3-2, at 133 on a first-period takedown that held up as the match margin.
Cornell extended its advantage later in the lineup. No. 2 Simon Ruiz ended his match at 174 by technical fall, 21-3, while Cy Kruse IV closed the dual at heavyweight with a 22-6 technical fall. Louie Cerchio (165) and No. 16 Christian Hansen (184) added decisions that preserved the Big Red’s lead.
Harvard’s other victory came at 197, where Hudson Skove rallied to beat Carson Crace, 5-2.
The meet was part of a home doubleheader for Cornell at the Friedman Wrestling Center; the Big Red defeated Brown earlier in the day before the evening dual with Harvard. The combination of pins, majors and technical falls across the lineup produced the margin in Ithaca.
