Princeton @ Cornell Recap
Cornell beat Princeton 32-8 at the Friedman Wrestling Center in Ithaca, NY on February 8, 2025. The Big Red piled up bonus points to create a gap Princeton could not close, and five bonus-score bouts in the dual accounted for the bulk of Cornell’s margin.
The turning stretch came from dominating performances in the upper middleweights. Meyer Shapiro’s 18-0 technical fall at 157 and Julian Ramirez’s 15-0 technical fall at 165 were followed by Simon Ruiz’s 17-2 technical fall at 174, a run of bonus-point wins that swung the scoreboard heavily in Cornell’s favor and left Princeton chasing points. Those three technical falls were the backbone of Cornell’s victory.
Ethan Fernandez also supplied a big result with an 11-2 major decision at 149, adding more bonus points to the total and keeping Princeton from mounting a comeback. Princeton’s highlight came at 197, where Luke Stout answered with a 17-2 technical fall over Michael Dellagatta to stop the momentum and secure the Tigers’ only bonus win.
In the end Cornell’s ability to convert several matches into major decisions and technical falls decided the dual. The 32-8 final reflects Cornell’s advantage in bonus scoring across multiple weight classes and Princeton’s limited counterpunches late in the lineup.
