Maryland @ Drexel Recap
Maryland Men's Wrestling topped Drexel Men's Wrestling 23-13 at Drexel University in Philadelphia on February 21, 2025. The match was decided by bonus-point wrestling, with Maryland collecting multiple majors and a technical fall to build separation while Drexel managed a key major decision of its own.
Drexel’s Desmond Pleasant delivered one of the night’s standout results, beating Maryland’s Presden Sanchez 10-1 by major decision to pick up four team points and keep the Dragons in the hunt. Pleasant’s performance was the clearest highlight for the hosts and forced Maryland to answer with higher-value scores.
Maryland did just that with a string of bonus victories. Braxton Brown scored a 13-4 major decision over Kyle Waterman, and Ethen Miller turned in a dominant technical fall, stopping Aboubakare Diaby 21-4. Maryland added more margin with Jaxon Smith’s 15-4 major over Giuseppe Hoose and Seth Nevills’ 10-1 major at heavyweight, and those bonus points proved decisive in a match that otherwise featured several close decisions.
In the end Maryland’s four bonus wins and a tech fall generated the gap needed for the 10-point victory, while Drexel’s Pleasant kept the dual from becoming a rout. The bonus-point production was the clear difference in Philadelphia on Feb. 21.
