Virginia Tech @ Oklahoma State Recap
Oklahoma State beat Virginia Tech 34-9 in Stillwater, Okla., on December 19, 2024, handing the Hokies a lopsided dual at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Pokes piled up bonus points across the lineup, turning what might have been a close meet on paper into a comfortable victory.
The margin was driven by dominant bonus wins. Dean Hamiti Jr. scored a 20-4 technical fall at 174 and Dustin Plott followed with a 20-5 technical fall at 184, back-to-back types of results that swung team scoring heavily in Oklahoma State’s favor. Those tech falls, along with other bonus-point efforts, kept Virginia Tech from mounting any sustained comeback.
At heavyweight, Wyatt Hendrickson sealed the outcome with a fall over Hunter Catka, the kind of pin that effectively ended the competitive portion of the dual and pushed the final score well beyond reach. Virginia Tech’s brightest moment came at 149, where Caleb Henson earned a fall over Carter Young for six team points, the Hokies’ top offensive play of the night.
Oklahoma State also collected major decisions elsewhere on the card, contributing to the 25-point margin. In the end the Cowboys’ assortment of majors, technical falls and a late pin made the difference, while Virginia Tech relied on a handful of strong individual performances that weren’t enough to counter OSU’s bonus-point output.
