Bellarmine @ Appalachian State Recap
Appalachian State Men's Wrestling beat Bellarmine Men's Wrestling 38-6 in North Carolina on February 18, 2024. The Mountaineers collected a string of bonus-point finishes that put the dual out of reach and left Bellarmine with just six team points.
The dual featured several decisive victories for Appalachian State. Chad Bellis rolled to an 18-2 technical fall at 125 pounds, good for five team points, and Isaac Byers followed with a 14-2 major decision at 141 for four more. Luke Uliano added another five-team-point technical fall at 174 with a 20-4 win, and those bonus scores built a sizable cushion for the home team.
Carson Floyd's fall at 197 provided the knockout blow, supplying six points and widening the margin late. Those bonus results were complemented by additional majors and tech falls elsewhere on the card, creating a gap Bellarmine could not close. The accumulation of tech falls, majors and a pin made the difference rather than a string of close decisions.
Appalachian State’s ability to turn individual matches into bonus-point outcomes decided the dual. Bellarmine was unable to generate matching bonus offense, and the final 32-point margin reflected Appalachian State’s control in the high-leverage bouts.
