Wyoming wins 25-10 at Northern Colorado on bonus-point surge
A technical fall by David Saenz and major decisions from No. 9 Eddie Neitenbach and No. 5 Joey Novak supplied the bulk of Wyoming’s scoring in Greeley.
GREELEY, Colo. — Wyoming defeated Northern Colorado 25-10 on Feb. 13, 2026, at the University of Northern Colorado, rallying with three bonus-point victories after Northern Colorado’s early highlight at 133 pounds.
Northern Colorado drew first sustained attention when No. 11 Dominick Serrano posted a 15-3 major decision over Luke Willochell at 133 to get the Bears on the board and keep the dual competitive on the mat.
Wyoming responded with a string of bonus outcomes that shifted the team score. David Saenz ended his 141-pound match by technical fall, 19-3, after building a large cushion with two second-period nearfalls and finishing with a third-period reversal and a three-point nearfall that triggered the stoppage.
No. 9 Eddie Neitenbach followed with a 15-6 major decision at 184. Joey Novak, ranked No. 5, closed the late bonus surge with a 10-1 major decision at 197 that included a third-period takedown and a riding-time point.
Those three bonus-point results accounted for the clearest scoring swing of the night and provided the margin Wyoming needed to pull away.
Wyoming opened the dual at 125 when Sefton Douglass won 4-0 over Bryson Valdez. Douglass’ third-period reversal and a riding-time point, coupled with stalling calls on Valdez late in the period, produced the decisive scoring in that bout.
Gabe Willochell, listed at No. 28, added a 13-8 decision at 149, and Sloan Swan edged Kilian Schultz 5-4 at 165 in a one-point bout. Northern Colorado supplied two more wins later in the lineup: Daishun Powe prevailed 11-4 at 157, and Murphy Menke was awarded a 2-2 decision over No. 28 Riley Davis at 174 after overtime escapes left the match tied.
The heavyweight bout was decided by a single point as Winston McBride recorded a third-period escape to win 1-0 and finalize the 25-10 score.
Wyoming’s team release described the Cowboys as not at full strength but noted the victory pushed the squad forward in its schedule, and Northern Colorado’s recap highlighted several tightly contested matches despite the loss. Wyoming’s release also lists the Cowboys’ next dual: hosting No. 16 Oklahoma Sunday.
The result underscored the value of bonus-point wins in dual-meet scoring; Saenz’s technical fall and the majors from Neitenbach and Novak produced multi-point swings that outweighed Northern Colorado’s individual big win at 133.
