Bellarmine Men's Wrestling topped Virginia Military Institute Men's Wrestling 31-9 at Bellarmine University in Louisville on Feb. 2, 2025. The final score reflected a string of bonus-point wins that swung the meet firmly in Bellarmine’s favor and left VMI with just one major scoring play of its own.

Virginia Military Institute’s standout result came at 149 pounds, where Patrick Jordon pinned Zac Cowan to deliver six team points for VMI. That was VMI’s biggest single-bout result, and it accounted for the majority of their scoring in the dual. Beyond that pin, VMI was limited in its ability to convert finishes into more points.

Bellarmine answered with three bonus wins that proved decisive. At 157 pounds, Jeb Prechtel recorded a fall over Eric Doran for six team points. Andrew Liber rolled to a 16-0 technical fall at 197 for five more team points, and Daulton Mayer closed out the heavy scoring with a 16-1 technical fall at heavyweight for another five points. Those three bonus victories accounted for 16 of Bellarmine’s 31 team points and created the separation that produced the 22-point margin.

In short, VMI’s pin at 149 stood out for the visitors, but Bellarmine’s combination of a pin and back-to-back technical falls on the upper end of the lineup decided the dual and secured the 31-9 win.
