Columbia @ Cornell Recap
Cornell beat Columbia 32-9 at the Friedman Wrestling Center in Ithaca on February 2, 2024, handing the Lions a 23-point defeat in the Ivy dual.
The Big Red piled up bonus points through the middle and upper weights. At 133 pounds Vito Arujau ran up a 17-1 technical fall, and Meyer Shapiro and Julian Ramirez followed with technical falls at 157 and 165, respectively. Those three techs alone delivered a major chunk of Cornell’s scoring and put Columbia in a hole.
Lewis Fernandes closed the dual at heavyweight with a fall, the six-team-point ending that capped Cornell’s day. Jacob Cardenas’s 15-6 major decision at 197 also added important bonus scoring and helped maintain the margin through the late matches.
In short, Columbia could not overcome Cornell’s string of bonus-point victories in the middle weights and a decisive pin at 285. The combination of technical falls and a late fall made the difference in the 32-9 final.
