Utah Valley @ Stanford Recap

Stanford beat Utah Valley 29-12 at Stanford University on November 2, 2024. The Cardinal’s bonus-point production was the difference in a dual that saw four matches end with extra team points and ultimately put the meet out of reach for the Wolverines.

The first big blow came at 133 pounds when Tyler Knox finished Kase Mauger by fall, a six-point swing that gave Stanford a clear advantage in team scoring. That momentum carried into the middle weights, where Jaden Abas hammered out an 18-3 technical fall at 149. Abas’ dominant outing not only padded the score but forced Utah Valley to chase high-value results.

Grigor Cholakyan kept the pressure on with a 16-7 major decision at 157, and Lorenzo Norman added another technical fall at 174, a 22-5 result that further widened the gap. Those four bonus-point wins — a fall, two tech falls and a major — accounted for the bulk of Stanford’s 29 points and represented the decisive swing of the meet.

Utah Valley was able to collect points in other matches but could not overcome the Cardinal’s string of bonus victories. In the end the cluster of high-value outcomes separated the teams and produced the 17-point final margin in Palo Alto.
