Princeton’s bonus-point barrage paces 27-18 win at Brown

Tigers piled up majors, technical falls and a pin to pull away in Providence; Brown’s late pin narrowed the gap but couldn’t overcome Princeton’s bonus scoring.

Princeton closed out its trip to Providence with a 27-18 victory over Brown at Pizzitola Sports Center on Feb. 1, the Tigers’ bonus-point collection supplying the decisive margin.

The dual opened with a flurry of bonus scoring. Dale O’Blia ran up a 16-0 technical fall at 125 to get Princeton rolling, and Ethan Rivera followed with a pin at 133 — a quick finish that Princeton’s recap identified as a highlight of the afternoon.

No. 24 Ty Whalen delivered the most emphatic blow of the middle weights, dominating No. 28 Max Norman with a 17-1 technical fall at 165 to add another five-team points and blunt Brown’s hopes in that bracket.

Princeton turned tight moments into separation with majors from Holden Garcia (174) and Xavier Giles (184), and No. 15 Eligh Rivera provided a steady 8-2 decision at 149 that helped sustain the Tigers’ lead.

Brown answered in the late go with valuable decisions at 141 and 157 and then a program-highlight swing when No. 18 Andrew Reall pinned Conor McCloskey at 197, producing the Bears’ biggest scoring burst on the card. Alex Semenenko also recorded the heavyweight result on the board via forfeit.

Princeton’s combination of technical falls, majors and a pin produced the extra points that ultimately separated the teams. The Tigers’ postmatch notes counted six arm-raises and multiple bonus wins, while Brown’s home recap framed the meet as part of the annual Rumble & Tumble at Pizzitola. In the end, Brown’s late bonus narrowed the margin but Princeton’s string of bonus victories closed out the 27-18 road dual.
