Maryland handed American a 27-9 loss at American University in Washington, DC on December 5, 2025. The Terrapins’ margin came down to a string of bonus-point wins that separated the two squads and produced most of Maryland’s offense.

The most notable result was #12 Braxton Brown pinning Maximilian Leete at 133 pounds, a fall worth six team points that swung momentum sharply in Maryland’s favor. At 174 pounds, Dominic Solis, ranked #31, posted a 14-4 major decision for four more team points. Branson John, ranked #17 at 197, delivered a 21-5 technical fall that added five bonus points and, along with the other bonus scores, accounted for 15 of Maryland’s 27 team points. That run of bonus victories proved decisive, and John’s technical fall in particular put the outcome beyond reach.

American collected nine team points elsewhere, but Maryland’s ability to turn key matchups into bonus scoring was the difference in the dual. The ranked wins from Brown and John and Solis’s emphatic major underlined Maryland’s advantage in the upper weights and left the host Eagles short of an answer in those critical bouts.
