Iowa edged Iowa State 21-15 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on November 23, 2024, a dual decided by bonus points in a handful of standout bouts. The Hawkeyes collected two bonus victories that proved decisive in a tight Big Ten vs Big 12 meeting.

At 174 pounds Patrick Kennedy put together the biggest result of the night, topping Aiden Riggins 19-4 by technical fall to gift Iowa five team points. Stephen Buchanan II also delivered a major contribution at 197, shutting out Christian Carroll 10-0 for a major decision and four team points. Those two matches alone accounted for nine of Iowa’s 21 points and swung the scoring margin in the host’s favor.

Iowa State stayed within striking distance throughout, but the bonus-point edge ultimately separated the teams. With Kennedy’s technical fall and Buchanan’s major, Iowa collected the extra points needed to finish with a six-point margin in a dual that came down to a couple of decisive individual performances.
