Appalachian State @ Campbell

Campbell knocked off Appalachian State 23-16 in Buies Creek, North Carolina on February 2, 2024, in a Southern Conference dual that came down to bonus points. The visitors stayed competitive, but Campbell’s extra-point finishes ultimately decided the outcome at Campbell University.

Anthony Molton’s dominant 19-4 technical fall at 125 pounds was the first of three Campbell bonus wins, supplying five team points and giving the hosts an early edge. Appalachian State answered with a big result of its own when Tommy Askey put up a 15-5 major decision at 157 pounds, adding four points and keeping the Mountaineers firmly in the match. That major was one of Appalachian State’s biggest scoring plays on the night.

The difference was Campbell’s ability to finish. Caleb Hopkins and Taye Ghadiali recorded falls at 184 and 285 pounds, respectively, worth six team points each, and those two pins combined with Molton’s technical fall for 17 of Campbell’s 23 team points. Those bonus-point victories put Campbell out of reach despite App State’s solid efforts in the other bouts. With bonus scoring creating the margin, Campbell took the dual, 23-16.
