Oregon State @ Utah Valley Recap
Utah Valley beat Oregon State 20-14 in a dual at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT on December 20, 2024. The home team pulled away with two major decisions that supplied the bonus points necessary to separate the squads in a tight meet.
The turning points came in the 141 and 149 pound matches. Haiden Drury handled Nash Singleton 11-3 for a major decision, and Smokey McClure followed with a 15-4 major over Victor Jacinto. Those two majors produced eight team points for Utah Valley and swung momentum in the Wildcats' favor.
Oregon State fought back when Christopher Hamblin earned a technical fall at 157 pounds, stopping Ryker Fullmer 19-4 and delivering five team points for the Beavers. Hamblin’s bonus victory kept Oregon State within striking distance, but it was not enough to overcome Utah Valley’s earlier bonus scoring.
In the end the difference was bonus points. Utah Valley’s pair of major decisions created a cushion that Oregon State could not erase despite a big tech fall. The 20-14 final reflects a meet decided by a few high-scoring bouts rather than a string of narrow decisions.
