Wisconsin @ Rutgers Recap
Rutgers Men's Wrestling defeated Wisconsin Men's Wrestling 31-7 at the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, NJ on January 19, 2025. The Scarlet Knights built a commanding lead largely through bonus-point victories, turning what might have been a close Big Ten dual into a comfortable win by a 24 point margin.
The backbone of Rutgers' scoring came from two technical falls that created separation. Joseph Olivieri dominated Brock Bobzien 15-0 by technical fall at 141, and John Poznanski closed his bout with a 20-5 technical fall at 197. Those two matches alone accounted for 10 team points and set the tone for Rutgers’ margin of victory.
Andrew Clark’s 16-2 major decision at 149 added four more bonus points and helped blunt Wisconsin’s momentum. Wisconsin’s best result in the dual was Luke Condon’s 14-4 major decision at 174, which provided the Badgers with their lone bonus-point victory but was not enough to change the outcome.
In the end Rutgers’ cluster of bonus wins was the decisive factor. Wisconsin fought hard in spots, but Rutgers’ ability to convert opportunities into majors and technical falls produced the separation needed to secure the 31-7 final score.
