Michigan @ Maryland Recap
Michigan rolled to a 38-3 win over Maryland in College Park on Jan. 12, 2024, using a barrage of bonus-point victories to build an insurmountable lead. The Wolverines’ offensive night left little room for a Maryland comeback, as Michigan piled up tech falls and pins that accounted for the bulk of the scoring.
Michael DeAugustino powered a 20-5 technical fall over Tommy Capul, a five-team-point result that swung momentum sharply in Michigan’s favor. Sergio Lemley answered with his own technical fall, defeating Dario Lemus 19-4 and adding another five-team-point bonus that kept Maryland on its heels.
The match got away from the hosts when Michigan collected multiple pins. Cameron Amine recorded a fall at 165 pounds and Lucas Davison closed out the heavyweight bout with a fall, each worth six team points and each further padding the margin. Those bonus-point results, paired with the earlier tech falls, essentially decided the dual.
Maryland managed just three team points in the dual while Michigan’s depth and ability to convert wrestling opportunities into bonus points produced the decisive 35-point margin. The outcome underlined Michigan’s ability to secure high-value wins across several weight classes and left Maryland searching for answers after a difficult night at home.
